Fisher the otter comes across an abandoned egg hidden in the reeds of the southern swamp. That night he watches over it and reads to it, until it hatches into a little heron girl. Fisher with his new daughter Clementine traverse the rivers in their floating bookshop, where they struggle to get along. Fisher is quiet, Clementine is loud. Fisher is old, Clementine is young. As the two get to know each other and the different towns along the river, they realize that love and understanding matter more than any differences they may have. And even if this is hard to convey with words, they can show each other through their actions and the stories they share. As Fisher raises Clementine, he realizes that he is changing and growing as well. Perhaps he no longer needs the silence of his old life. Perhaps his love for Clementine and her love for him are what truly bring value to his life now.
